Shihan Brookshire was born January 20, 1964 in Greenville, SC and came to
Clemson University as an undergraduate in August of 1982. He
holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Management, Summa cum Laude
from La Salle University and a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Studies from
Excelsior College. Shihan Brookshire is currently attending the Georgia Law
Enforcement Command College and is pursuing a Master’s in Public
Administration from Columbus State University. He is scheduled to graduate
in December of 2010.
Shihan Brookshire was hired by the Clemson Police
Department in July of 1987 and was eventually promoted to lieutenant for the
Support Services Division.
Shihan Brookshire had various assignments at the
department including patrol officer, advanced traffic accident investigator, D.A.R.E. instructor specific skills instructor, defensive tactics instructor
and spontaneous knife defense instructor for the department. He is also a
trained crime prevention officer, victims advocate, and instruct women's
self defense classes on a continuing basis. Shihan Brookshire was promote to
Systems Administrator (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer) for the City of
Clemson and served as a Summary Court Judge for the Town of Central.
Shihan Brookshire
is currently the Captain for the Professional Standards Division of the
Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. He began studying Taijutsu at Clemson University in the fall of 1986 to
the spring of 1987 and was unable to continue his instruction after his
instructor graduated.
Shihan Brookshire studied Isshinryu Karate under
Hanshi Phil Little (10th Degree) from August of 1992 until the summer of
1993 when he began studying under Shihan Chris Eadie (6th Degree) of Eadie's
Martial Arts School of Self-Defense (EMASS). Shihan Eadie was teaching Tang
Soo Do Karate and Goshin Ju Jutsu. Shihan Eadie became affiliated with
Mukashi Kindai Ryu (MKR) in February 1994 and Shihan Brookshire cross-rated
in MKR Karate at that time. Shihan Brookshire was appointed a Sempai
(assistant instructor) in October of 1994.
Shihan Eadie decided to formulate his own style of martial arts in the
spring of 1997 and Shizoku Ryu Martial Arts was born. Shihan Brookshire was
cross-rated in the new style of Shizoku Karate and kept his rating in Ju
Jutsu. He also continued to be rated as a Sempai. Shihan Eadie discontinued
his affiliation with MKR at this point. Shortly, thereafter, EMASS closed
its doors to the public.
Shihan
Brookshire continued to train in private for a while and in April of 1998 he
contacted Soke Rick Boyer (10th Degree & Founder) of MKR and requested to be
re-affiliated with Mukashi Kindai Ryu. Soke Boyer graciously accepted Shihan
Brookshire's request. Shihan Brookshire is the head instructor of the
Anderson County Sheriff’s Officer Martial Arts School as well as the
Soke-Dai of Mukashi Kindai Ryu.
