Sensei Blackburn was born December 12, 1962 in New Orleans, LA. His
parents moved to the Charleston area in 1963 and he has resided in South
Carolina ever since. Sensei Blackburn and Shihan Brookshire met as
undergraduates at Clemson University in the fall of 1982 and formed a
lifelong friendship.
Sensei Blackburn holds a Bachelor of Science in
Computer Science from Clemson University and
is currently a database
administrator for Clemson University.
He began studying Taijutsu at Clemson University in
the fall of 1986 to the spring of 1987 and was unable to continue his
instruction after his instructor graduated. Sensei Blackburn studied
Isshinryu Karate under Hanshi Phil Little (10th Degree), Tang Soo Do
Karate and Goshin Ju Jutsu under Shihan Chris Eadie (6th Degree) of
Eadie's Martial Arts School of Self-Defense (EMASS). Shihan Eadie became
affiliated with Mukashi Kindai Ryu (MKR) in February 1994 and Sensei
Blackburn cross-rated in MKR Karate at that time.
Shihan Eadie decided to formulate his own style of
martial arts in the spring of 1997 and Shizoku Ryu Martial Arts was
born. Sensei Blackburn was cross-rated in the new style of Shizoku
Karate and kept his rating in Ju-Jutsu. Shihan Eadie discontinued his
affiliation with MKR at this point. Shortly, thereafter, EMASS closed
its doors to the public.
Sensei Blackburn continued to train
in private for a while with Shihan Brookshire and in April of 1998 when
Shihan Brookshire contacted Soke Rick Boyer (10th Degree & Founder) of
MKR he requested to be re-affiliated with Mukashi Kindai Ryu. Soke Boyer
graciously accepted Sensei Blackburn's request.
Sensei Blackburn is an instructor of the Anderson
County Sheriff’s Officer Martial Arts School as well as the Ni-Dai Soke
of Mukashi Kindai Ryu.
